About SettledIn
Hi. I'm Shannon. I'm not a Richmonder, not even a Virginian. I'm from Metro Detroit where we spend more time in a car than out and about. Richmond, on the other hand, is a city of neighborhoods, unique communities, organizations, interest groups, professional networking groups, co-working spaces, free parks, museums, community art centers...Exhausted yet? Richmond can also be a hard place to meet people and feel connected.
Having spent over 20 years living in different cities — Boston, Detroit, Dublin, Richmond — knowing a local who made me feel welcome made all the difference. You know, the type of people you can call when you need a ride to the doctor. They showed me true hospitality, gave me advice and recommendations so I felt at home immediately.
I moved to Richmond in 2004 and now my connections span different interest groups, professions and neighborhoods. Now I'm the one helping newcomers connect to the city.
If we're all six degrees of separation apart, than it's about three degrees in Richmond. But that's not the case for everyone. Some people arrive starry-eyed and within a few years leave discouraged. Others come for college or a job and never leave. What's the difference? Connecting, feeling rooted, finding that one thing (or two or three or seventeen) here that you can't get anywhere else. In other words, quality of life.
Let SettledIn help you do find your way. After all, there’s no app to replace hospitality.
